AI Disclosure
I do not use AI for commission work unless there is an agreement in place for the purpose of economizing extra design details and costs. My only regular use of AI is generating CSS code as well as background imagery. I always spend time refining these manually. This page is not intended to highlight future points of argument. I do not feel the need to justify my thoughts twice. The purpose of this page is to express my personal views on the subject as a digital artist.I support, respect and appreciate original content more than AI outputs. This includes art as well as dev work.I respect other peoples' opinions and do not intend to change them. It is what it is.
How I Use AI:
CSS: I generate specified code and run it through a test site. From there, I adjust the code to fit the requirements of the embedded element. Background imagery: I run multiple images with my own machine and models. After I'm happy with the initial image, I take it to Photoshop and thoroughly clean up the details.
The Sum of the Parts
There are so many things associated with the AI industry that are way beyond my control. What I can control is how I, as an individual, decide to use the technology afforded to me by these tools when I need to use them. And I think the word 'tool' is very important because it plays a large part in the ethical use of AI. Using AI as a sum of the parts serves to benefit the process of the media instead of replacing the process entirely. Using generative AI to achieve the final product in one step is where I draw my line. I find it lazy, tasteless and an insult to the creative process. There's just no replacing the human element when it comes to consistent quality.I personally associate AI with CGI. Overusing it results in cheap and unappealing visuals. Sparingly using it to add to existing visuals results in more compelling and efficient media creation.
Third World Perspective
I, as a South African, cannot contribute to any meaningful legislative change towards the enforcement of ethical practices when it comes to protecting artists' rights as well as the environmental and economic impacts of the AI industry. I can't vote to put people into positions to can make those changes. It's as simple as that. My entire country doesn't even have a big enough influence in the industry to argue for the demand to implement more moral regulations of the technology. In a world where millionaires take private jets to go to lunch, I feel that my own environmental impact is not significant enough for me to lose sleep over. I have likely spent more energy microwaving baked potatoes than I've used on AI assistance.I recognize the economic impact of AI, but again, it is far beyond my power and influence to make any meaningful change in this lifetime or the next.
I find it so amazing when people tell me that electronic music has not got soul. And they blame the computers. They got their finger and point at the computers like, "There's no soul here!"It's like... You can't blame the computer. If there's not soul in the music, it's because nobody put it there. And it's not the tool's fault.
- Björk, 1997
In Conclusion
In an ideal world, I believe:• AI should not be allowed to advertise products.• News and political networks should be forbidden to use any AI content in any of their media.• AI models must be trained on consensually provided work.• Deepfakes of any kind should be highly illegal.• Generative content should not profit from mass distribution.• It should be required that AI content on social media sites must be filterable.• Using AI for any personal or conceptual work is completely fine.
What's up! Thanks for checking out my Carrd!I'm from South Africa and I've been a professional designer for over 13 years. I'd say I'm pretty chill. Lord of the Rings is easily my biggest writing inspiration.ERP isn't really my thing. Separating IC and OOC is vital no matter the context of either.Feel free to reach out about anything regarding my characters or my work. I like to think I'm approachable!

She finds great delight in collecting rare trinkets. The more they shine, the better. She has spent most of her life aboard a ship. Like most seafarers, she is incredibly superstitious and acts immediately to avoid an unlucky fate. The only thing sharper than her tongue is her aim with a bow. She is a highly talented archer with a love for writing songs and tales of the feats she accomplishes with other hunters.Thaleli sails the seas in search of a legendary pirate ship said to contain a hoard of priceless artifacts.
